I am a neuroscientist that focuses on the biological origins and treatment of serious psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and autism. We use all the modern tools of neuroscience to understand how certain brain circuits may be developmentally altered when exposed to the known risk factors for these disorders. One such risk factor for which we have established the epidemiology, is developmental vitamin D deficiency. The lessons we have learnt from following this vitamin D link have shown us that multiple epidemiologically validated adverse developmental environments for these disorders all converge on developing and adolescent dopamine systems.
