Dr. Cohen is an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at VCU. Trained as a physician, Dr. Cohen is a full time researcher. His work demonstrated a correlation between breast cancer hormone receptor status and bone resorption. These studies examined how estrogen stimulation of the membrane receptor ERα36, present in triple negative breast cancer cells, remodels bone via osteoclast activation. Additionally, we have examined the effect of 24R,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 on cancer aggression based on estrogen receptor status. Lastly we have examined estrogen receptor status as a prognostic indicator in laryngeal cancer.
